The Safety Cage Under Spreader BA-185 and the Modular Safety Cage BA-185T are universal models designed to be compatible with 100% of existing spreaders and cranes. Other models should be selected according to the crane type and the operation to be performed.
What is the difference between a Safety Cage Under Spreader and a Gondola Safety Cage?
The Safety Cage Under Spreader is designed to give stevedores access to container twistlocks from above. The Gondola Safety Cage is designed to allow stevedores to work while moving between containers and is especially suitable for STS cranes.
What is the Safe Working Load of the Safety Cage Under Spreader?
The BA-185 Safety Cage Under Spreader has a Safe Working Load of 6 tonnes and is designed with a safety factor of 10. It can carry up to four people with their complete working equipment.
How many people can work inside the cage?
It depends on the model. The BA-185 Safety Cage Under Spreader is designed for up to four people with complete working equipment. The Gondola Safety Cage is designed for up to two stevedores with complete equipment per cabin, while Under Hook Safety Cages can be configured for up to six people according to customer requirements.
What safety features are included?
Depending on the model, safety features may include perimeter railings, internal handholds, inward-opening self-closing and self-locking doors, anti-slip floors, drainage points, fall protection anchor points, double safety systems and roof protection. Specific safety systems vary according to the selected cage.
Do the cages include fall protection anchor points?
Yes. Several models include anchor points or lashing eyes placed behind the working position for fall protection. The Gondola Safety Cage includes anchor points according to EN795 per cabin, while the Under Hook Safety Cage includes safety rings for fall arrest systems.
Are the cages CE marked?
Safety Cages Under Spreader and Gondola Safety Cages are not within the scope of the European Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC and therefore should not bear CE marking. TEC Container states that these cages follow worldwide regulations such as ICHCA, ILO, BS or LR, as well as local codes of practice where applicable.
Can the cages be customised?
Yes. Several models offer different sizes, configurations and optional equipment. Under Hook Safety Cages can be manufactured in various sizes according to customer requirements.
Can the cages be transported inside containers?
Yes. The Safety Cage Under Spreader is transportable inside an ISO container, while the Gondola Safety Cage is ready to be delivered inside a 40ft FCL. Some models also include forklift pockets for easier transport and handling.
